Safety First

Spring and early summer rains mean higher than average water levels and fast-moving flows at the Beach St location. Before heading out to row, please refer to the USGS river level graphs located on the Rowing Safety page. The Trinity River height should be 16' or below. Safety comes first, so please be mindful of water conditions and plan to row with a buddy whenever possible.

Check the prediction earlier getting on the water. If you hear crack of thunder, wait 30 minutes earlier for rowing. If you notice lightning, wait 60 minutes earlier for rowing. In the programmed a storm takes place while you are on the water, try and protectively get back to the dock as faster as you can. Due to the high danger of hypothermia, do not row single handedly when the water temperature is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Never and by no means row when the mixed temperature of the air and water is below 90 degrees. You can track the air temperature, and the river temperature. Do not row earlier to sunrise or after sunset. Rowing is a sport and fitness time pass. Get a water bottle with you when rowing and take repeated breaks, particularly in high temperatures.
